    TAMPA’S LOWRY PARK ZOO NAMES NEW CEO

    The Board of Trustees of Lowry Park Zoological Society today announced the appointment of Joseph A. Couceiro as Chief Executive Officer of Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo. Couceiro is currently Vice President of Marketing & Communications at the Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo. He is expected to begin work on August 17 and will fully transition into the role by month's end.

    Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo Finds Success in Breeding Program for Rare Amphibian Species

    Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo has taken action to help save the Puerto Rican crested toad, a critically endangered amphibian species, by successfully breeding the species at the Zoo and returning more than 1,600 tadpoles to that country for reintroduction.

    African White Rhinoceros Born at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo

    The newest female offspring at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is not a princess, but she is receiving a royal welcome. A southern white rhinoceros was born May 21 to first time mother “Alake,” originally from the Phinda Reserve in Africa. The newborn marks the fourth successful southern white rhino birth and the seventh rhino born in the Zoo’s history(four African, three Asian).

    Local Conservation Organizations Mark Endangered Species Day with "Vanishing" African Penquins

    Today, zoos and aquariums across the country are marking the 10th anniversary of Endangered Species Day by highlighting a collaborative effort to save endangered species from extinction. Two local nonprofit conservation organizations, Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo and The Florida Aquarium, will participate by having their endangered African penguins “vanish” from exhibit for a short time to illustrate the growing extinction crisis.

    Spring Into Summer: More to Do in Wallaroo at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo

    Thirteen years ago today, Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo introduced Wallaroo Station, a 4.5 acre Australian-themed family area, where thousands of families with young children have enjoyed an interactive Australian adventure. The hands-on, family-friendly features helped the Zoo secure top honors from two national parenting magazines: Parents, “10 Best Zoos,” (2009); and Child, "The 10 Best Zoos for Kids" (2004).

We offer over one million annual visitors the chance to learn about 1,300 animals in a way that’s exciting, interactive and fun. We also operate one of the world’s foremost breeding programs, helping to save some of our planet’s most threatened species from extinction. In addition to breeding, we are home to Florida’s premier manatee rescue and rehabilitation center, dedicated to the treatment and safe release of one of our state’s most famous resident animal species. Yet with all of this and so much more, we have one simple mission: to connect to the living earth for the protection of future generations of all species, including humans.
