TAMPA, Fla. (April 25, 2013) — Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is hosting the 4th annual Día del Niño, or Day of the Child, on Sunday, April 28 featuring character appearances by both “Dora the Explorer” and “Go Diego Go” from Nick Jr. ™ -- together for the first time at the Zoo. Día del Niño is observed in many Latin American countries as a day to celebrate childhood.

“Every day is a day for children at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo, but we are devoting this special day known as “Día del Niño” to serving children of diverse populations, including households where Spanish is spoken,” said Craig Pugh, executive director and CEO of Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo.

The Zoo’s Día del Niño celebrates a traditional children’s festival with a variety of family activities. At this event, guests can visit the Zoo’s 1,500 animals, take a spin on a free ride (included with admission), cool off in splash ground water play areas, and enjoy:

  • Character appearances by “Dora” and “Diego” at select times and locations;
  • Interactive games from “The Rays Street Team”;
  • On-air talent and activities from Univision Tampa, La Maxima and Radio Disney;
  • Live musical performances by “A Son De Plena”;
  • Piñata enrichments for select animals;
  • Bilingual translators and signs;
  • Great food and drink, including traditional Hispanic flavors; and
  • Activities and give-a-ways from a variety of vendors.
