Sea Lion Splash, a Limited Engagement, Opens March 1

TAMPA, Fla. (February 27, 2014) — Dive in for a limited-time exhibition -- Sea Lion Splash -- coming to Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo March 1-May 31. This fun-filled family attraction will feature a colony of coastal sea lions, daily presentations (educational shows) and an outdoor activity area.

Sea Lion Splash will showcase a rotating group of three to five aquatic ambassadors representing both California and Patagonia sea lions. While the sea lions charm the audience, guests will learn about the variety of life along the coasts of Mexico, Central and South America, and conserving natural habitats for these charismatic creatures.

“Tampa is truly a gateway to the Americas. The sea lion educational program is designed to help us to better appreciate some of our nearest neighbors from the California coast to South America,” said Craig Pugh, CEO and executive director of the Zoo. “Up-close experiences with animals here at the Zoo help make the far away more familiar and help keep us from taking for granted the wildlife that live in our own backyard.”

Sea lions are highly intelligent animals that can be trained to demonstrate natural behaviors on cue. Presentations will delight guests as several sea lions display their natural talents and charm the audience with flips, barks and specific behaviors.

Just beyond the splash zone, there’s fun in the sun with inflatables for kids (bounce house and slide), a giant sandbox, specialty gift shop, interactive sea lion photo opportunities* and pool party-inspired food and beverage. It’s a sea of fun for everyone!

Admission to Sea Lion Splash is $2 per person in addition to Zoo general admission. *Extra fees apply for interactive sea lion photo opportunities, which are available on a limited basis. Visit the Sea Lion Splash web page for more info.

Sea Lion Splash is owned and operated by Squalus, Inc. Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo gratefully acknowledges the sponsors and partners who make this special exhibition possible: Seal Swim School, Land Rover Tampa and Tampa Bay PowerSports.
