New for The New Year: Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo Begins Remodel of Award-Winning Wallaroo Station Children’s Area

Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is welcoming the New Year with a resolution for more family fun in 2015! The Zoo is updating Wallaroo Station, the 4.5 acre children’s zoo -- the first significant remodel of this award-winning attraction. The scope of the improvements will necessitate the closure of most of the area for approximately two months.

Enhancements Include Improved Water Play, New Creature Comforts

TAMPA, Fla. (January 7, 2015) — Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is welcoming the New Year with a resolution for more family fun in 2015! The Zoo is updating Wallaroo Station, the 4.5 acre children’s zoo -- the first significant remodel of this award-winning attraction. The scope of the improvements will necessitate the closure of most of the area for approximately two months.

For more than a decade, thousands of families with young children have enjoyed an interactive Australian adventure in Wallaroo, which debuted in 2002. The hands-on, family-friendly features helped the Zoo secure top honors from two national parenting magazines: Parents, “10 Best Zoos,” (2009); and Child, "The 10 Best Zoos for Kids" (2004).

Wallaroo Station is home to a variety of animals of Australia and its neighbors including koala, wallabies, cockatoos, emu, singing dogs and flying fox bats. Children can cool off in the fountains, visit the petting area, and take a spin on one of four children’s rides —Tasmanian Tiger family roller coaster, Overland Express Train, Boomer's Flyin' Bananas airplanes, and Outback Bumper Boats.

When Wallaroo re-opens this spring, guests can expect the area to be more “Auss-ome” than before with upgrades to “The Billabong” splash ground with new water features, a redesigned restaurant and dining area with additional seating and increased shade, new midway games and activities, and new amenities like a nursing mothers area.
