Youth Volunteer Opportunities
The Youth Development Department promotes positive personal, social and professional development through Teen Programs and service opportunities. Program participants gain a better understanding of the natural world and the role the Zoo plays in it. All of the programs below fulfill the public and private school community service requirements for graduation.
Summer Camp Internships
Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo’s Summer Camp Internship Program provides teens (ages 15 and older) the opportunity to earn service hours by assisting with our summer camps Mon – Fri from 8:15am – 4:00pm. Interns are asked to commit to volunteering for 3 or more weeks. Applications are accepted from February to May. Learn More
Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo utilizes teen volunteers (ages 15 and older) for seasonal and special events like ZooBoo KIDS in the fall or Wild Wonderland in the winter. Volunteers earn service hours by working 4 or 8-hour shifts. Applications are accepted throughout the year. Learn More
Student Resource Guide
Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is dedicated to serving as an educational resource for the community. We receive many requests from students of all ages who are seeking to pursue projects or homework assignments at the Zoo, and we greatly appreciate the interest. There are many ways to learn more about the Zoo’s commitment to conservation, education and research. Learn More
Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo currently provides internships for college Junior, Senior, or Master’s level students or recent graduates. Zoological Career Workshops are offered for High School students as a learning opportunity about animal-related careers. Workshops include enrichment or husbandry experience, an animal encounter, and a behind-the-scenes look at caring for animals in the Zoo. View the events calendar for more information. Learn More
